Are you Drawn to the Light?

Shorter days and darker nights fill our calendars. We hurry home from work, barely beating the sunset. We fill our homes with the glow of artificial lights and prefer blue light screens over the blanket of darkness.

The porch lights by the front door attract the remaining insects, who haven’t hidden for the winter. Coated in darkness, all of creation waits for the dawn of a new day, a risen sun, and a brighter tomorrow.

There is just something within all of creation that craves the light.

As we prepare for Christmas and hang extra lights on our fence posts, porches, and trees, may we remember that what we really crave is the light that only Christ can bring.

Long before He walked on this earth, Isaiah prophesied of the light and freedom that Jesus would give to those who were spiritually blind, captive to sin, and trapped in darkness.

Let the shorter days and the twinkling lights remind you that Jesus walks with you. Let them open your eyes to God’s presence and love and satisfy your craving for light through the gift of His hope.

“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand.
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles,
to open eyes that are blind,
to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness
.”

Isaiah 42:6-7
