Don’t Miss the Moment
I need a breather.
Today is the last day of June, and the summer is flying by too fast. Just this past weekend…
Two children and I came home from a four-day camp. My daughter’s friends visited for a two-day sleepover. We had Sunday morning responsibilities, a family birthday dinner, and then sent a different child away this morning for another overnight camp… whew!
Today’s only Monday, and I’m writing this email from the field as my oldest son is at soccer camp. I need a breather.
Surely, I am not the only one feeling this way.
I don’t know what made me think summer was supposed to be a slower, more relaxing pace.
But regardless of what’s on your calendar or how your summer is unfolding, we have the freedom to press pause and take a breath.
That’s what I am doing today, before the calendar flips to July.
I am taking time to pause, rest, and maybe even reevaluate things that need to be adjusted as the summer progresses.
In case you need it, I am giving you permission to do the same.
Go for a walk (albeit a hot one). Soak up the sun by the pool. Sit on the porch and enjoy the sounds and breeze that accompanies a summer rain. Listen to the chorus of the morning crickets or evening frogs. Linger a little longer with a good book, close friend, or favorite summer beverage.
Give yourself grace to move a little slower, so that you can reflect on all the things you are grateful for, opportunities you’ve been blessed with, and the people that you cherish.
Take time to breathe.
