No Way to Win the Race
My mind raced as the minutes rolled from night into early morning. Filled with thoughts of what could, should, or I wished would be, my brain blocked my body from its needed slumber. With only four hours of sleep, I began my day knowing that the battle in my mind couldn’t be won as long as I was the only one driving my life. I needed to surrender control to the One who held the road map.
Slowly, I moved to the chair in the corner of the room where I met with Jesus each morning. Weary, I opened my Bible and read Psalm 31:5.
“Into your hands, I commit my spirit, deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.”
With renewed hope, I continued to pray…
Into your hands, I commit my thoughts, deliver me from my anxiety, Lord, my faithful God.
Into your hands, I commit my plans and my future, deliver me from my need for control, Lord, my faithful God.
Into your hands, I commit my life and that of those I love, deliver me from my fears, Lord, my faithful God.
The words from the Psalmist became my simple prayer for rescue and rest. Surrendering control, I placed my trust in the hands of a faithful God.
The road map for peace was found in God’s Word.
