Who’s in the Room with You?

Awakening from a deep sleep, something felt different in my room. There was an energy and a presence I could sense…like I was being watched. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I turned toward the feeling. Suddenly, a loud whisper broke the stillness: “MOM!” spoken just inches from my head.

I don’t know how long my son had been standing there, but I knew the moment I woke that I wasn’t alone. I could feel his presence before I saw him.

Isn’t it the same with God? Once we awaken to His presence in our lives, we notice that He’s been there all along. There’s not a moment or a place where He isn’t near, whether in the quiet of the morning, the rush of our routines, or even in our moments of doubt and distraction.

That reality can bring deep comfort, or even conviction. Sometimes we welcome His nearness. Other times we’d rather He not see what’s going on in our hearts. Yet His presence never wavers. He isn’t waiting to catch us failing, He’s longing to remind us we’re never forgotten.

It’s our prayer that being aware of His constant presence fills you with peace and assurance. You never have to face your days or your battles alone. He is always with you.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

Psalm 139:7-12 NIV

  • Where in your day do you most sense God’s presence? Where do you tend to forget that He’s near?
  • How might your thoughts, words, or choices shift if you paused to remember that He is right beside you in each moment?
