What’s Beneath the Surface?
“Dig a little deeper. You’re almost there.” My oldest son encouraged his younger brother.
The boys sat across from each other on the bank of the river. Each brother had his arm elbow-deep in the sand.
“We did it!” shouted my youngest son as he grabbed his brother’s fingers. Their hands finally met, and the tunnel was complete. Slowly they inched their arms backward out of the sand to admire their hard work.
“Let’s do it again!” they shouted in unison.
Two hours later the sandy bank had been transformed into a city of tunnels and caves. Each path led the way to another hidden passageway of excitement and adventure. Some caves had multiple entry points while others served as shelters or gathering places for their cars and army men.
A riverbank transformation began with two curious boys and a desire to dig deeper until they found a connection.
Our time in Scripture can work the same way. We can stay on the surface and enjoy the beauty of the stories and basic picture of God’s love OR we can dig deeper and find a connection with our Creator, Savior, and Friend. By asking questions, looking at different translations, exploring footnotes, and applying God’s Word to our lives, God’s truth can transform our hearts and leave us filled with excitement and craving more.
The depth of discovery is endless. Are you willing to keep digging?
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
