When God leaves you speechless

The oranges, pinks, and purples blended beautifully across the fall horizon. Against the leaves’ subtle shift from green to autumn brilliance, the sky seemed to shout the praises of our Creator. It was a gift of beauty after a long day, which ended on the soccer field.

Unable to find the words to describe her day, my daughter’s bright smile and joy-filled demeanor said it all. She had witnessed a transformation in the heart of a friend – one that could only be orchestrated by God.

A decision, an announcement, a baptism.

A step into the water and a step out into new life with Christ.

And in that moment, her friend became something more – a new sister in Christ.

Sitting in the hospital waiting room, my heart held both hope and heartache. Around me, families discussed hospice options, waited for the latest doctor updates, and wondered whether loved ones would go home with them or home to Jesus.

Amid the uncertainty, a frail woman sat with her hands on her knees, staring with delight at the small child playing on the opposite side of the room. Seperated by age, language, and circumstance, they shared a moment of unexpected joy. The simple delight of a child bridged the distance between them and brought a glimmer of hope into an otherwise heavy room.

And in that small moment, I was reminded that even in our heartache, God sees us and offers unexpected hope.

—

Three different moments this week. Yet each left me in awe of the same incredible God.

The God who paints the sky with beauty is the same God that transforms hearts and brings hope into hospital rooms.

His majesty and transforming power are incomprehensible. And yet, His love reaches into the quietest, most difficult corners of our days.

Sometimes all I can do is stand in awe and overwhelmed with gratitude for who He is, how deeply He loves us, and how very close He remains.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

Psalm 8:3-4

The God who is greater than we can comprehend is closer than we often realize.

Thoughts to Ponder

  • How have you seen God this week?
  • Perhaps listen to the song “How Can You Not” by Leanna Crawford and thank God for all the ways He reveals Himself to us.
