What’s on your mind right now?

Driving through North Carolina, the simple words on the billboard brought my racing mind to a halt. Now, twenty-four hours home, I can’t seem to shake them.

“Hope is a practice that saves my life every day.”

I don’t know what business or organization the billboard promoted, but I have lived the truth of the above statement in my own life. As the words continue to turn over in my head, I get hung up on the first four… “hope is a practice…”

A discipline. A choice. A practice developed during seasons of overwhelm, illness, anxiety, and grief.

If you’ve ever had to fight to hold onto hope, you know this truth.

Hope requires an active choice to believe. A choice to focus on the possibility of a positive outcome and belief in its fulfillment.

As a child of God, it’s the practice of clinging to God’s goodness, His promises, and the gift of restoration and reconciliation through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Hope is a practice. Regardless of your circumstances. Every day. Every hour. A choice of hope and belief in God’s saving power.

And in its practice, you experience the grace and nearness of God.

You taste and see that He is good.

You confirm the belief that He will fulfill His promise to save and sustain you every day.

Not just on good days, but every day.

It’s one of the reasons we started LIFEstory, because we believe hope is a choice worth making. We believe the world needs more hope. We believe that the hope of Jesus is what saves our lives, and that’s worth sharing.

Are you practicing hope today?
