Which voice are you listening to?

#2 Tip for LIFE: Choose Truth

L.I.F.E.: Living Intentionally and Focusing Eternally

As I walked away from the conversation, I hung my head. Already, my inner critic was loud. The thoughts spun and twirled, weaving a story full of shame and regret.

Knowing where the spiral would lead, I whispered a prayer.

Lord, because of your great love I am not consumed. Your compassions never fail, they are new every morning. Steady my mind and give me your peace as I trust in you.

Another pillar of LIFEstory is Choosing Truth. While that can look different in different seasons, it always begins with deciding whose voice we will believe.

We choose truth when we choose to trust Him over our inner critic.

We choose truth when we trust His promises, even when life is hard.

Ultimately, we choose truth when we choose God’s Word over the world’s.

Notice that choosing is active, not passive. It requires intention on our part. And each time we choose truth, the more naturally our hearts learn to recognize and trust God’s voice.

Sometimes, though, we’re tempted not to.

If we don’t choose truth, our alternatives are to ignore it, dismiss it, or reject it.

Ignoring truth chooses comfort, complacency or ‘keeping the peace’ over doing what is right.

Dismissing truth says that even though we know what God says, we believe our way is better than His.

Rejecting truth means turning away from the promises and wisdom God offers us.

The beautiful thing about choosing truth is that it doesn’t require perfect faith or the absence of doubt. It simply means turning our hearts back to the One who is Truth.

Some days we’ll choose well. Other days we’ll need to stop mid-spiral, quiet the lies, and remind ourselves of what God says is true.

Thankfully, His mercy is new every morning, and His grace always invites us back.

YOUR TURN: Claiming L.I.F.E. in your story means Choosing Truth

  • What voice have you been listening to lately – your inner critic, the world, or God’s truth?

  • What truth from Scripture do you need to choose and believe today?

This week, when voices are competing for your attention, we pray you’ll choose the One whose words never change. His truth brings peace to anxious hearts, hope to weary souls, and freedom from the lies that so easily entangle us.

And if we can help you or pray for you, we’d love to walk alongside you.
