Who can you depend on?

Getting ready to hang up the phone, my parents mentioned that they knew it would be me when the phone rang earlier.

“How did you know?” I asked.

“Because it’s a Tuesday, and you’re dependable.”

While our weekly chats to catch up on life do go through seasons, there’s usually a rhythm to our communication that others might call predictable.

Maybe that’s one of the best things about it.

The dictionary defines dependable as “capable of being trusted; reliable.” Synonyms include responsible, faithful, steadfast, and trustworthy.

Do you know someone who is dependable? Someone whose steady presence you can trust?

In Paul’s letter to the Colossian church, he names several people and commends them for their faithfulness, hard work, and comforting presence with him while he was in prison.

They were dependable. Trusted friends and fellow workers who showed up and remained faithful.

These are the kinds of faithful, steadfast relationships we can cultivate with fellow believers, too. Relationships that keep us grounded in our faith, remind us of truth, and provide a steady presence when we walk through hard seasons.

And just as importantly, we can strive to become that kind of dependable friend for someone else.

Faithful relationships like these have an eternal impact as we encourage one another to know truth, live faithfully, and keep our hearts focused on Jesus.

If you do, thank God for that blessing in your life and consider how you can continue to cultivate those relationships.

If you don’t, pray that God would lead you, in His timing, to steadfast believers you can trust and depend on. Then put yourself in places where those relationships can grow. Trust that His plans and timing are perfect.
