What season are you in?
Grabbing a jacket, I stepped outside into the crisp, fresh air. Leaves crunched under my feet as I made my way to the car. Excitement bubbled up as the thought came… fall has finally arrived.
Every year, I welcome autumn. It’s no secret that it’s my favorite season. After the hot and humid days of summer, the anticipation of cooler weather and colorful foliage keeps me going.
Seasons come and go. Some we look forward to, while others we just pray we can make it through to the other side.
Our lives have seasons, too. And right now, I know so many people walking through difficult ones—health diagnoses, work instability, parental heartaches, marriage struggles, and financial troubles.
We cannot escape the hard seasons—but we can choose how we walk through them.
When the brokenness of the world lands on our doorstep, where do we turn? Do we cling tightly to control or escape into earthly distractions? Or do we respond by living out what we know to be true?
As followers of Christ, we can respond with hope.
Not because everything is okay or because we know how our story will unfold, but because we know the One who does. We can hold onto these truths:
He is with us.
He is faithful.
He has promised us a future with Him.
We can trust Him with our future because He already knows it.
Living truth doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay or putting on a brave face when we’re hurting. God is big enough to hold our sadness, our anger, our questions, and our pain.
So, if you’re walking through a difficult time right now, talk to God about it. Journal your thoughts. Dig into His Word. Share your struggles with someone you trust and let them pray for you and hold you up.
And most of all, place your hope in the God who is faithful.
Your current season may be uncertain, but your future is not.
One day, God will make all things new. Every tear will be wiped away, and pain and sorrow will be no more.
Until then, we can hold onto what we know is true:
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness
and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:13–14
This season will not last forever, but God’s promises will.
