What are you holding onto?
Her tiny hand gripped mine as she gingerly stepped forward. Smiling, she turned and looked at me as this new skill took shape. With growing confidence, her steps became steadier as she ventured further. Eventually, her hand let go of mine as she delighted in her newfound freedom and the adventure that lay ahead.
From that very first tentative step, everything depended on trust. If my daughter didn’t trust me, she never would have taken the risk to move forward – or found the freedom that came with letting go.
As we get older though, something shifts. Instead of stepping forward in trust, we begin to cling to what’s familiar, predictable, and within our control. It feels safer to hold on tightly than to risk the uncertainty of letting go.
But in doing so, we build walls that keep us from moving where God is leading.
The truth is, trusting Him in all things brings a freedom we can’t find anywhere else.
We don’t have to cling to control when we trust the One who holds all things in His hands.
When we fully surrender our grip and learn to trust Him with each step, those self-made walls begin to fall.
And just like a child learning to walk, we can loosen our hold on what feels safe, open our hands, and step into the adventure He’s inviting us into.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
